Participating SRTS School Display
Boards
These boards provided the school representatives
and community with an assessment of the school. Included on each
board are the school demographics, existing infrastructure
including sidewalks and bicycle facilities, a two-mile radius
boundary, photo of street and school entrance, and safe route
questions for parents, teachers, and students to answer.
Display boards were produced by the Comprehensive
Planning Department of the Regional Planning Agency. For more
information contact Melissa Taylor, Senior Planner at taylor_melissa@mail.chattanooga.gov.

Monitoring and documenting outcomes and trends
through the collection of data, including the collection of data
before and after the intervention(s).
Activate Chattanooga partners are currently
developing the evaluation component of the Chattanooga-Hamilton
County Safe Routes to School Program. For the pilot year
2006- 2007 we introduced a parent surveys and conducted
observational assessments of traffic and safety patterns.
This data was then used to understand the existing social and
physical situation either promoting or hindering walking and biking
to school. During the 2007-2008 school year we hope to build
upon the existing survey, add a grade-appropriate student survey,
and partner with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to
conduct an intervention & behavioral study which would serve to
structure an on-going scientific evaluation program.
